Generation 1 Transformers
Everyone is very familiar with the recent growth of the Transformer craze. It came when the first Transformer movie with Shia Lebeauf hit the big screen. What many (especially younger folks) do not realize is the there was a first generation line of Transformer interest that came when the Transformer toys came out in 1984. These toys were a common line-up on the toy market for almost 8 years and many sales were made. Hasbro was the original US company to bring these on the American market after they paid a visit to the 1983 toy convention in Japan.
During this time, Marvel comics was contracted to bring out a story line to fit the release of these new toys. While the comic strip book was working in tandem growing the popularity of these new toys, an animated TV series hit the airwaves to follow-up on their success.
The original battle of the Autobots against the Decepticons grew out of this period and many young boys and girls were starting to learn the life history of these alien beings that had come to our world. The 2 main nemeses, Optimus Prime and Megatron (later Galvitron) brought forth he battle that had carried over into the lives and imaginations of people everywhere. The battle for saving the planet had begun and stayed with us until 1991.
